LUISAMARIA HERNANDEZ is a Dominican American soprano based in New York. As an active recitalist and concert curator, Luisamaria has made Latin American, Caribbean, and Spanish art music an important part of her storytelling and performance practice. After taking a hiatus from productions, Luisamaria is excited to spend more time on operatic stages in an effort to expand her artistry and interpretation.

On the opera stage, Luisamaria has performed with Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra in The Damnation of Faust and La Traviata. She joined Opera Del West as Un Esprit in Massenet’s Cendrillon, which she also choreographed. She also performed in historic Faneuil Hall in NEMPAC Opera Project’s production of The Little Prince, as Common Rose 2 and Water (cover). She sang Infantin in Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg and Louise in Von Suppe’s The Finishing School. She has performed in the ensemble of Opera Tampa in productions of La Traviata, Madame Butterfly, and Rigoletto. Her Boston choreographer debut was Longy Opera Theatre’s production of Kalman’s Countess Maritza. She made her company debut with Boston Opera Collaborative in the role of The Daughter in The Course We Set by Puerto Rican composer Johanny Navarro.

Recital programs where she has captivated audiences have included “Light in the Darkness”(Incarnation, Tampa), “Reflections: Finding Light Beyond the Shadows” (Soapbox Gallery), “Songs from the Homeland” and “On Shuffle” (Balcony Series). Luisamaria also performed the solo recital, “My Favorite Things” with Florida Lyric Opera. More concert engagements include “A Winter Romance” and “The Heart of a Woman'' with Sparrow Live and Milton Community Concerts respectively. Luisamaria curated and performed “Concerto di Natale: Testimone della Luce'' with Noriko Yasuda and “Una Notte in Maschera” in Boston’s historic North End. Luisamaria was a guest artist at Polk State College for the Voices of the People Chamber Music Series where she presented the solo recital, “Seismic Phenomena”.

With a desire to diversity her storytelling practice, Luisamaria made her librettist debut with Prisoner of Mercy, in which she sings the role of Broken when she presented a short form preview of her libretto (Harvard, 2022). The first workshop of POM will take place in New York City in the spring of 2026 with composer, John-William Gambrell.

Luisamaria believes representation on and off the stage is key to developing community and well-rounded artistry. Her experiences as a Sphinx Connect Fellow and Sistema Side-by-Side Instructor have been integral to her work as she strives to tell stories that will reach those who need it most.

Luisamaria received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College and is a private student of Jack LiVigni.
